Thunder survives the storm

Rumble for Thunder in Snodland

After most of the Mini Blair games called off due to bad weather and disrupted through half term, the Under 11s Thunder & Under 12s only surviving. The 12s got a 3-0 Home win and the 11s Thunder report is as follows:

Thunder brought the curtain down on the first mini-league of the season with a tight game at Brompton against Snodland.
Both teams looked sharp and determined from kick-off but clear-cut chances were few and far between. Thunder stuck to their customary passing game and looked lively, with Dexter Davis and Zach Tydeman constant threats.
Snodland snatched the lead but Blair came back strongly, with Leo Pickett looking fresh and sharp on his return after his loan spell with Lightning.
In the second half, Archie Rutherford quickly levelled things up with an unstoppable free kick that sailed over the keeper’s head and lashed into the back of the net.
Thunder now had the bit between their teeth with Oscar Colyer looking dangerous every time he got the ball but Snodland were not going to give anything away and a close game threatened to spill over into silliness with a couple of fouls from both sides.
Snodland pinched the win with five minutes left and, despite a determined effort from all the boys – and another fantastic free kick from Archie which missed by millimetres – they just couldn’t find another goal.
As if the players and parents were not grateful enough to have Lee, Liam and Daz developing our boys, the conduct of the Snodland coaching bench – and unfortunately one or two of their players – gave us even more reasons to be thankful.
It’s always good to have coaches who understand that wildly celebrating an own goal scored by a distraught 10-year-old boy, contesting decisions from 75 yards away and constantly berating the referee is not the best example to set the children in your care.
Thunder now go into a tough-looking Autumn Festival programme with every reason to be optimistic about their chances – and with us all looking forward to a rematch at Snodland on November 25.
Great report from Richard, all match reports are welcome and are always from the writers perspective. Keep them coming everyone #UptheBlair #foundationsareforever
